Tennis at the SOS Club
The Tennis program here at the SOS Club has a lot to offer any tennis enthusiast. FOr those interested in learning how to play as well as those just wanting to sharpen their skills, there are various clinics and classes held weekly which are taught by our very own Tennis Pro Rich McCaig.
For those just interested in playing some tennis, we have drop-in nights on Monday and Tuesday each week from around 5-7pm. The only requirement is that you chip in a dollar or bring a can of balls.
Every summer the Tennis Camps for Kids are a huge hit, as participants are treated to a variety of fun and games while learning to play the game. Camps are designed to help develop basic fundamental tennis strokes, footwork, court knowledge, rules, tennis etiquette, and general playing skills. The camps also help to promote social skills and better overall coordination. Campers are grouped by age and ability.
Other things of interest with our Tennis Program are special events such as Tennis Socials, Leagues, Tournament, Pot Lucks, Pro Tennis Bus Trips, and much, much more. There are many reasons tennis is considered a sport for a lifetime, but since it would take me forever to explain all of the benefits, come on out and see for yourself how much fun it can be.
Visit our on-site Tennis Shop carrying a full line of Wilson prodcuts as well as other names such as Dunlop, Head and Balle De Match clothing. The shop offers stringing services for both tennis and racquetball, with a speedy turnaround time of 1-2 days.
For any and all inquiries about the Tennis Program, please call Rich at 578-5801, ext. 142. Hope yo see you on the courts sometime soon!
Table Tennis
The Modesto Table Tennis Club (MTTC) meets at the SOS Club three times a week to provide a recreational organization to engage all persons interested in the sport of Table Tennis!
There is no formal agenda, as persons participating will usually match up to play with another player basicall equal in skills. If an inexperienced person comes to participate, designated experienced players will assist in training, enabling new participants to learn rules and regulations. They will also assist in training methods for beginners to become familiar with the sport, and further themselves along to better the skills necesary to play the sport correctly.
MTTC's history began in 1971, when it was found at Mattox Youth Center. THe following year the venue changed to Downey High School from 1983-2000, another location change involved a move to the YMCA on McHenry BLvd., and the MTTC has now been at the SOS Club for two years.
While the majority of players hail from Modesto, regular out-of-towners appear from Hollister, Tracy, Lodi, and Sonora!
Although no tournaments have been held recently in Modesto, locals have travelled to Sacramento, Fremont, Concord, and Fairfield to participate.
Sunday, Noon to 4:00pm
Wednesday, 7:00pm to 10:00pm
SOS Members pay no additional fees, and non-members pay $5.00 per visit or may purchase a pass offering 11 visits per $30.
